Although Dutch singer Laura Fygi initially garnered notice as a member of the disco group Centerfold, she pursued a more jazz-inspired path with her solo debut effort “Introducing Laura Fygi.” On subsequent efforts including 1993's “Bewitched” and the following year's “The Lady Wants to Know,” she collaborated with artists including Johnny Griffin, Toots Thielemans and Clark Terry, and in 1997 Fygi worked with one of her idols, the great composer Michel Legrand on “Watch What Happens.”
In 2012, Laura signed a contract with one of China's largest record companies and recorded the CD “Flower” specifically for the Asian market. It contains original Chinese compositions that Laura had arranged in her own style. Some songs were translated into English and French, but she also sings four songs in the original Chinese. In 2015, Laura celebrates her 25th anniversary as a solo artist. To celebrate this occasion, Universal Music will release a double album titled 25th Anniversary Collection containing one CD with songs chosen by her loyal fans and one with songs that she recorded over the years but were never released.
