THE HEART OF EUROPE – SPECTACULAR ALPINE REGION – SCENIC SURROUNDINGS – HISTORIC ARCHITECTURE

AUSTRIA is located in the Centre of Europe and has approximately 8.5 Mio. inhabitants. It is bordered by the Czech Republic and Germany to the north, Hungary and Slovakia to the east, Slovenia and Italy to the south, and Switzerland and Liechtenstein to the west. Salzburg, the gateway to Austria from the northwest, can be easily reached from the Munich International Airport within 2.5 hours driving distance and is admired equally for its baroque architecture, its majestic palaces as for its magnificent scenic Alpine surroundings. It was nominated as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.The picturesque city is an area of narrow medieval streets and arcaded courtyards whereas the countryside is a paradise for all natural adventure-seekers. Salzburg was the birthplace of 18th-century composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In the mid‑20th century, the city was the setting for the musical play and film The Sound of Music.

No more than 16 students in one class, the teacher/student ratio is around 1:8.

All sports classes are held on the campus at our students guest resort which boasts a wide range of equipment and facilities, such as a class rooms, dining rooms, relax lounges, outdoor basketball courts, a soccer pitch, and a multi-purpose sports-hall with the capability for basketball, volleyball and badminton. Classes will be fun and exciting, and are designed to engage in nature, sports and community activities. Excursions will be in the cultural places in the Salzburg region.

3.       Camp supervisor team

Your children and teenagers are supervised by a team of supervisors consisting of certified and graduated teachers as well as sports, education and psychology counselors. All supervisors take part in a training course to prepare them professionally and extensively for work at the summer camps. The completion of training course in first aid, legal issues, planning and organization are prerequisites for being accepted as team member.

4.       How about catering?

Full-board is provided at all of our guest houses including breakfast, lunch, dinner, fresh fruits and dinner in each morning and afternoon. Meals are prepared by the chef of the family-run guest house experienced in providing organic meals for international students. The freshly cooked food is healthy, well-balanced and meets the nutritional standards for children and youth. Any special dietary requirement (vegetarian, pork free…) can be cared for by the kitchen staff of the guest house. Please specify special requirements at booking time.

5.       Room allocation

The team of supervisors is responsible for the appropriate allocation of rooms on site. Accommodation for boys and girls are strictly separate. We will do our best to accommodate any special requests concerning room allocation at the time of booking.

6.       What about administering medication?

Our capability for administering medication is limited to easily administered medication, which we have been previously informed about on our emergency card. All information regarding any allergies (e.g. food allergies), medical conditions, and details of medication must be given at the time of booking. Our supervisors are not allowed to give out any other medicine to the participants.

7.       What kind of documents shall we prepare for visa?

Please find out in advance of booking regarding the particular travel conditions such as visa requirements from the country of origin. Case may differ, so please refer to your local embassy/consulate, and make sure the period of stay is valid during the camp.

8.       How can I best prepare my Child for camp?

The best preparation for camp is a positive family attitude.

Clearly discuss with your children what they should expect at camp

Review the schedule with your child so they know what to expect

Discuss the excitement of meeting new friends and getting to know their awesome teacher.

If this is your child’s first time to camp, encourage them to bring a friend with them to give them a greater sense of security. Let your children know that you will miss them, but resist the urge to be too sentimental. Your confidence and optimism will be transferred onto your camper.

9.       What should campers pack for camp?

Student should come to camp with a standard set of toiletries and their own towels. Bed linen will be provided by the camp. A packing list will be sent to our participants along with the travel documents. We recommend casual sports clothing, waterproof and comfortable shoes, slippers, a pair of sandals, an extra pair of sport shoes, shorts, underwear, comfortable pants and shirts, a swim suit, warm clothes for cooler days and writing implements such as a pen and pencil, and a water bottle.

10.   Mobile phones and other troublesome items

To keep a “radiation-free” atmosphere in our camps, the participants’ mobile phones may be collected at the beginning of the camp. Every day at “mobile-time” the phones will be handed out to children. Laptops, play stations, Gameboys as well as jewelry and other valuables should stay at home! The possession of dangerous objects such as (pocket) knives, or similar is of course forbidden!

11.   What about my child’s roommates?

The allocation of rooms will be completed closer to the start of the camp. The aim of this allocation is to enable language and cultural acquisition to continue outside of the academic classroom as well as developing friendships and social connections that will continue once the camp is finished.

12.   What are evenings like in the guest-house?

During the camp, the guest house will be fully-staffed for safety and security. Each house will have teachers responsible for the children after the academic day, and they will oversee and supervise the residential evening program. In addition, each guest house, or each floor in some instances, has communal areas where children can relax, play cards or board games and get to know one another.

13.   What if my child gets homesick?

It is natural for some students to miss home, particularly if this is their first experience being away from home. Our residential coordinator and all staff, including teachers, are prepared to work with students who may experience homesickness. Of course, campers will be very busy and there will be little time to spend worrying about being away from home.

 14.   Should Parents call their child?

The best time to contact your child is between 6:30pm and 7:30 pm – after the evening meal. Please take the time difference between your home country and Austria into consideration which is 6 hours during summer time. Please be aware that frequent phone calls can provoke homesickness, especially for younger participants.

15.   24h Hotline

In case of emergency we can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during summer camps. Please only use this telephone number in emergencies so that the lines are not unnecessarily busy. The number will be provided on the travel documents before departure.

16.   Pocket Money

We recommend a budget of approximately € 50.- pocket money per week – for souvenirs, postcards, ice cream and extra drinks.

17.   Camp rules

-          Smoking and the consumption of alcohol is strictly forbidden for all participants.

-          Children are not allowed to leave the camp ground on their own.

-          Rooms must be kept clean and tidy.

-          Respect, empathy and non-aggressive behavior are expected from all camp members of the camp.

Instructions given by the team of supervisors are to be followed at all times. Please inform your child about these rules prior to arrival at the camp.

18.   Removal from camp

Our team of supervisors and management are not to be held responsible for any possible disorderly or forbidden behavior of the participants. A participant may be removed from camp due to contagious or serious illness or injury that prevents the participant from participating in the daily program, as well as in the case of indecent behavior, punishable actions or other behavior for which the supervisors as well as the camp management cannot accept responsibility. When a participant is removed from camp, the child must be collected immediately by a parent or guardian at their own expense or the departure has to be arranged accordingly. No refund of camp costs will be made.
