瑞典文学院昨天宣布，将2016年诺贝尔文学奖授予美国民谣歌手、音乐人兼作家鲍勃·迪伦。瑞典文学院给出的获奖理由是鲍勃·迪伦“在美国歌曲传统中创造了新的诗歌表达”。

诺贝尔委员会常任秘书萨拉·达尼乌斯（Sara Danius）说，75岁的迪伦是“英语文学传统中的伟大诗人”，她将迪伦的作品与古希腊两位诗人荷马和萨福相提并论。她说：“如果回到2500年前，你会发现荷马和萨芙创作的诗歌，本身就是为了让别人听到，也就表示，这些诗词本身就是为表演而做，有时还会用到乐器，就像现在的迪伦一样。”
We’re really giving it to Bob Dylan as a great poet – that’s the reason we awarded him the prize. He’s a great poet in the great English tradition, stretching from Milton and Blake onwards. And he’s a very interesting traditionalist, in a highly original way. Not just the written tradition, but also the oral one; not just high literature, but also low literature.”Though Dylan is considered by many to be a musician, not a writer, Danius said the artistic reach of his lyrics and poetry could not be put in a single box. “I came to realise that we still read Homer and Sappho from ancient Greece, and they were writing 2,500 years ago,” she said. “They were meant to be performed, often together with instruments, but they have survived, and survived incredibly well, on the book page. 鲍勃·迪伦的获奖打破了诺贝尔文学奖的传统。传统上获奖者的得奖依据是其出版的书籍，尽管迪伦出过一本诗集、一本写生集以及一本名为《编年史》的回忆录，但他的主要成就是在流行音乐领域。
不过，其实在美国早在1997年就有人呼吁鲍勃·迪伦应该获得诺贝尔文学奖。
鲍勃·迪伦(Bob Dylan)生于1941年5月24日。从1961年发布首张专辑至今，迪伦在流行音乐界和文化界的影响深远。作为一个歌手和词曲作者，迪伦的成就主要以他的演艺生涯为核心，但他最大的贡献被普遍认为是他的作词。作为一个音乐人，迪伦的唱片总销量已超过了1亿，也让他成为美国最畅销的音乐艺人之一。
迪伦出道50余年，一直就是美国乐坛上的得奖专业户，得到过格莱美奖、奥斯卡奖、普利策奖和金球奖。如今他又获得了诺贝尔奖，将文艺界的最高奖项收入囊中，同时成为23年来首个获得诺贝尔文学奖的美国人。
不过，值得一提的是，2012年5月，迪伦获得了由美国总统奥巴马颁布的总统自由勋章。就是这枚总统自由勋章，往美国媒体投下了一颗重磅炸弹。人们突然发现，迪伦值得更有意义的奖项，比如——诺贝尔文学奖。
2013年9月23日，《纽约时报》赶在诺贝尔文学奖公布之前发表了题为“Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Nobel's Door”（敲啊，敲啊，敲开诺奖大门）的评论文章，认为鲍勃·迪伦应该获得诺贝尔文学奖。

而在当年的英国博彩网站Ladbrokes上，诺贝尔文学奖大热门是日本作家村上春树，科幻小说“1Q84”的作者。村上春树是独一无二的，因为“在诺贝尔文学奖的前沿，很难找到一个作家像村上这样深受20世纪60年代社会和文化动荡中的流行音乐和文化的影响。” 但是文章话锋一转，指出“为什么作为这些动荡中最重要的艺术催化剂的前沿人物（指鲍勃·迪伦），不能得诺奖？”
Why isn't the most vital of the artistic catalysts of those upheavals himself a front-runner for the prize?
他是一位咄咄逼人、不妥协的诗人。他的作品，50年过去了，仍然应景、不过时；他一生都在反主流、与传统相悖，也不会刻意讨好观众。他的抒情是精致的；他的关注和主题是永恒的。同时代的诗人们的影响力都不如他。
《纽约时报》为鲍勃·迪伦大声吆喝的同时，另一家主流媒体《大西洋月刊》刊登了一篇题为“Bob Dylan Shouldn't Win the Nobel Prize for Literature”的文章，质疑鲍勃·迪伦应该得奖的呼吁：
But he doesn't quite consider the nature of Dylan's craft: songwriting. Albums. Rock music. That's an altogether different vehicle than a poem—or, say, a novel or story collection... Dylan's verses certainly "don't sit inert on a page"; nor are his songs "mere word-delivery systems".
这篇文章振振有词地指出了迪伦创作的歌词不是诗歌，不是小说，不是故事集……因而配不上得奖。
But，果真是这样吗？看来瑞典文学院的评委们最终站在了《纽约时报》评论文章的一边。
