Stone is extracted from the earth, carved, cut and assembled to fit a purpose. It cannot be molded or constructed. Technological progress allows
mankind to design matter itself but could stone be cultivated or grown into a desired shape?

Together with scientists, geologist and craftsmen, we studied the geological process of sedimentation in the French region Auvergne, a not active
volcanic area. Our research focused mainly along a dozen kilometer long crack going as deep down as 3000 to 4000m. All along this crack, thermo-
mineral springs can be found.

Deep down, between 3000 to 4000 meters, warm water starts a 40-year-subterranean course to the surface of the earth. On its way, it will be enriched
of carbon dioxide and calcium carbonate. Those waters join the ground surface through the volcanic cracks.
When reaching the surface, water ventilate, causing the evaporation of carbon dioxide and calcium carbonate to settle onto any object or vegetation
placed under. Due to exceptionally high content of calcium carbonate – also called limestone – any shape placed under the water will be covered of
limestone - a white to red material. This is called petrification.

A leaf falling into one of these springs will petrify with a few months. This fast process on a geological scale allows us to develop fossils of a new kind.

Inspired by geological processes of stalactites’ growth, these stone objects are grown around structures, drop by drop. The fragile skeleton, a 3D
printed structure, is left to petrify for weeks in specially chosen thermo-mineral springs.
The natural geological processes reinforce and randomly thicken the ethereal structure and give birth to geologically engineered stoneware, fossils
of a new kind.
