Dating back nearly 400 years, Dongkeng district’s Labor Selling Festival has evolved from what was once an ancient job fair for lowly peasants into the biggest water fight in Southern China (if there is a bigger water fight in China, answers on a postcard, please). Every year, on the second day of the second month of the lunar calendar, people from all over Guangdong and Hong Kong flock to Dongkeng to get a little bit wet, a little bit wild, and to bring good fortune. According to the principles of feng shui, water is wealth, so the more water sprayed on you, the more wealth that will come over the following year. 

This year, the festival falls on March 10. Many Dongkeng factories simply stop working for the day, and let their workers onto the streets to throw and spray lucky water over each other. There are also a host of parades, cultural performances, and a food street. It is all set to be a great day out.
