Ready your umbrellas and wring out your shoes: the stormy weather of the weekend is expected to continue for at least the next two days in the Pearl River Delta.

According to the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory, as reported by Southern Metropolis Daily, from August 9-12 the average accumulated rainfall in Shenzhen was 101.5 millimeters. However, forecasts suggest that the city is set for even more heavy rain.

The 16th typhoon of this year is estimated to strengthen in intensity within the next 24 hours and will hit heaviest in the coastal areas of western Guangdong as well as the Pearl River Delta, according to the provincial weather bureau. Meanwhile, the white typhoon alert released for Shenzhen last Thursday was still active as of this afternoon.

Guangzhou too expects storms all week, and the provincial weather bureau listed Conghua District among the 50 areas in Guangdong most vulnerable to flash floods, landslides and similar.

In Shenzhen, although the weather will lighten up after two days, rain and intermittent showers are still forecast for the rest of the week.

This past weekend’s storms have already wreaked havoc across the Pearl River Delta, flooding Zhuhai Airport, causing landslides in the town of Sihe and inundating Yangjiang roads.
